Houses of multiple occupancy (HMO) fall under the same regulations as business, and we are experienced in providing Landlords with effective solutions to ensure that you comply with Fire regulations.
As from October 2006, fire risk assessments are a legal requirement for all UK businesses and organisations, to ascertain whether they conform to The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
You and the Fire Act
The legal requirement is that each organisation must nominate an individual as the 'responsible person'. It is then the duty of the responsible person to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to eliminate the risk of fire on the premises and to ensure the safety of workers and visitors to the premises. Since the Fire Act became effective in early 2011, responsibility for fire alarm systems has shifted from the local Fire Officer to the designated responsible person at any commercial premises where five or more people are employed. In the case of an HMO, the responsible person would be the Landlord or managing agent.

Your Fire Alarm
We will provide you with a comprehensive report detailing risks and preventative measures. Our surveyors are FIA (Fire Industry Association) trained to provide fire risk surveys of commercial premises to ensure adequate protection against fire and loss of life and all of our engineers have certificated training in installation and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
Fire alarm systems must be installed to the current BS5839 standard, which focuses on the protection of people before property. BS5839 stipulates minimum numbers of smoke alarm detectors, and manual call points that should be installed in all commercial premises across the UK.

Takeover of Fire Alarm Systems
We can take over most fire alarm systems, once we have confirmed that these systems are compliant with fire regulations. We can take over non-compliant systems but will record our findings of variations to the standard.

Maintenance
We offer you a comprehensive maintenance contract on your fire alarm system, with regular maintenance checks to ensure that your staff and business are safe, and that you meet all the legislation to make you compliant with the Fire Safety Reform Act.

Monitoring and Response
The monitoring of a fire alarm is crucial to ensure a quick response to any fire or fault situations that could harm life or property. It may possible to link your fire alarm system to your intruder alarm system to enable monitoring. However, if this is not possible, we can arrange separate monitoring of the system to our NACOSS Gold alarm receiving centre.
We firmly believe that effective monitoring should be seen as a necessity to any person assessing their fire or security requirements.
Astron have carried out major system installs, small additions to existing set ups, and fault finding. Their annual servicing is very thorough, any faults are discussed, and solutions agreed with the engineer.
They are open and informative at every stage of the install and their engineers are dedicated and very professional. The work was completed in a timely manner and to a very high standard.
